CRISTOFORO COLOMBO

Cristoforo Colombo (Genoa, between August 26 and October 31, 1451 - Valladolid, May 20, 1506) was an Italian explorer and navigator. He was among the most important Italian sailors who took part in the process of exploration of the great geographical discoveries. Sailor since his youth, Colombo conceived the idea of the existence of a land overseas (he thought Asia). He sailed from Palos de la Frontera August 3, 1492 and he arrived in San Salvador October 12, 1492. Colombo had not realized that it was a continent hitherto unknown.
