The wine capital of the Verona shore: wineries, olive groves and a lakeside stretching for kilometres among oleanders and jetties.
Bardolino is the name of a town and of a wine. The hills behind it are a carpet of vineyards and olive groves, and the town lives on this: historic wineries, oil mills, the Wine Museum and the Oil Museum, both free to visit.
Along the water, a lakeside promenade of more than two kilometres among oleanders, plane trees and jetties, linking Bardolino to Cisano. It is one of the longest and most pleasant walks on the shore.
In the centre, two Romanesque gems: the Carolingian church of San Zeno, from the 9th century, and the church of San Severo with its cycle of medieval frescoes. Small, tucked away among the houses, and all the more beautiful for it.
Vineyards a stone's throw from the lake and wineries open to visitors. The rosé Chiaretto is the signature of this shore.
Carolingian, from the 9th century, with a cruciform plan. One of the oldest buildings on the lake, hidden among the alleyways.
Over two kilometres of promenade among oleanders and jetties. Best enjoyed by bike or at sunset.
Stop at a winery up in the hills in the late afternoon: from up there you can see the whole lake, with the light fading.
Stay in Brenzone and reach this and the other spots on the lake, even by water.
