A walled village among the olive groves, birthplace of Chiaretto, the rosé wine of Lake Garda.
Moniga is a compact village, with a medieval castle whose walls still enclose the houses and the church today: you enter through a gate and find yourself inside a village within the village.
But Moniga is above all the birthplace of Chiaretto, the rosé of Lake Garda: it was senator Pompeo Molmenti who, at the end of the nineteenth century, codified its method. The surrounding hills are a mosaic of Groppello vineyards and olive groves, and the cellars are open for visits.
On the lake, a peaceful little harbour and a gravel beach with a view over the Isola del Garda and the Rocca di Manerba.
