Trekking on Monte Baldo

From the shore to 2,218 metres: panoramic trails, mountain pastures and a flora so rare it has earned a historic nickname.

Monte Baldo rises practically from the shore and reaches 2,218 metres. In just a few kilometres you cross every vegetation belt: olive trees, chestnuts, beeches, conifers, then the alpine grassland. This is why, since the eighteenth century, it has been called Hortus Europae, the garden of Europe: it is home to endemic species that grow nowhere else.

From Brenzone, historic trails climb through the upper hamlets — Campo, Sommavilla, Castello — and continue towards the mountain pastures. Alternatively, you can rise to altitude on the Prada–Costabella cable car or on the rotating one at Malcesine, and walk along the ridge with the lake beneath your feet.

Da sapere

01

The scenic ridge

High-altitude trails with Garda on one side and the Val d'Adige on the other. Uninterrupted views, minimal elevation gain.

02

The cable cars

Prada–Costabella and Malcesine take you up in just a few minutes: you walk without wearing yourself out on the climb.

03

Endemic flora

The Monte Baldo anemone, sedges and saxifrages: species that exist only here. Flowering between May and July.

The Belfiore tip

Ride up by cable car and walk down: you skip the climb and enjoy the whole descent with the lake before you.
